Renee's Tip March 30, 2020

Positive Parenting Tip of the Week:

Give Grace. Give grace to your children and yourself. In a crisis, we are all stressed and tired. We are all adjusting to this “new normal” so there will be looks of trial and error when figuring out what works for you and your family.

Please expect that children will likely exhibit more challenging behaviors during this pandemic. Their routines have been disrupted and they pick up on the ambient stress in our world. Patience, empathy, and compassion will help us manage these uncertain times.

It will be harder to help kids through trauma than the gaps in academics from this pandemic. Love your kid(s) and keep them healthy physically and emotionally. Read with them too. Make sure to take care of yourself and give yourself grace. Stressed adults cannot teach stressed children. It is neuro-biological impossibility. Try focusing on connections and feelings of safety. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Daily Quarantine Questions:

  1. Who am I checking on or connecting with today?
  2. What expectations of “normal” am I letting go of today?
  3. How am I getting outside today?
  4. How am I moving my body today?
  5. How am I expressing my creativity today?
  6. What type of self-care am I practicing today?
  7. What am I grateful today?
